PUSH’s Story
Coach Papa founded Papadia United Soccer Heroes (PUSH), also known as Papadia United Soccer Roots (PUSR), a U.S.-based 501(c) non- profit organization, in 1994, with a vision to improve children's lives through organized soccer programs. Growing up in Bamako, Quartier Mali, Coach Papa’s childhood was defined by his love for soccer amidst the challenges of makeshift fields and scarce equipment. With makeshift soccer fields and a lack of proper equipment, the journey to soccer excellence for aspiring youth was fraught with obstacles.
As a young boy in Mali, Coach Papa set out to create opportunities for children in his community. At the age of 12, he established Racine, a soccer team symbolizing “roots.” Leading as captain and coach, he nurtured Racine into a powerhouse, laying the foundation for what would evolve to PUSH by 2004. His passion for soccer at a young age sparked a movement that would transcend borders and change lives. From humble beginnings with just 14 boys, PUSH has evolved into a beacon of hope, serving over 100 boys and girls aged 7 to 18.
The club operates in Mali year-round, offering daily practices and weekend games on local clay fields. Each summer, Coach Papa returns to Mali, lending his time and talent to provide children with moments of joy and camaraderie through the beautiful game. Despite the challenges of playing on fields marred by sewage and debris, the children find solace and unity in the game they love.
The success of PUSH would not be possible without the generosity of sponsors, parents, friends, and compassionate individuals like you. While donations of shoes, clothing, and soccer equipment have made a significant impact, the needs of the children continue to grow. That's why Coach Papa is seeking support for essential resources, including a 16-passenger van for transportation, soccer goals, nets, a proper soccer field, and fencing to ensure the safety and success of the PUSH organization.
Together, we can provide children in Mali with the opportunities they deserve to pursue their passion for soccer and create lasting memories on and off the field. Join us in empowering youth, transforming communities, and inspiring hope through the power of soccer with PUSH.
